This arrived today

I know I said that I would only do a round-up of my purchases at the end of the month but this one just had to be shared.

Took some stars getting there but a huge thanks to the guys on the Retro Gamer forum for the help and star swaps for making it possible.

Now the big question, do I use or not?

  1. Wow! I want one now. Its a difficult question but I think if you have a original boxed SNES one, that can be put on display and you can use this one.

  2. Very cool - I think you set it on a shelf that says: Open in case of emergency - and use other controllers if you have the option until then. :)

  3. Well, at the moment I do use the Wii remote and nuchuk or a GameCube pad and I do also have a classic controller...

  4. That's a difficult one. If you have the classic controller, you are not actually gaining any extra functionality by using the SNES/Wii Frankenpad. If it were me, the pull of using a SNES pad to play Super Mario 3 on Virtual Console would be too strong and I would crack that bad boy out and have some fun. It's a shame to keep stuff boxed up, unused. Just think of the prospector in Toy Story 3. Your pad could be getting all bitter and twisted behind that cellophane.

  5. The preservationist in me says "don't open it". Also, the fact that it takes so long to save up enough points for anything decent like this.

Then again, if you intend to keep it and not re-sell it as a 'mega rare' item in the future then I see no harm in using it. After all, that's what it was made for and as long as you're careful with it and keep it clean, I can't see you regretting using it.

The standard classic controller is brill and all but surely the SNES design is impossible to resist?

  6. Everyone makes compelling arguments and I'm now about half and half about whether to use it, though I may slightly be veering more towards the do use side.

I'm currently playing through Donkey Kong Country Returns with the remote and nunchuk so will see what I decide to play afterwards and whether you can use the pad.

  7. I got my own one a lil while back...still haven't opened it yet. I'm torn because I've never bought anything video game related and not used it but this is a bit different.

What makes it even more difficult is the fact that the SNES controller is my absolute favourite...the torment goes on.

  8. Well at the weekend I built a new shelving unit and it's currently sitting on the top shelf next to my Xenoblade/Last Story/Pandora's Tower art book/box.
