Annoying things in games 3

Following on from unskippable cutscenes I'm now going to go with unskippable tutorials or pretty much tutorials fullstop.

I know that control pads (for the 360 and PS3 at least) have quite a few buttons on them these days but not that many to warrant me being forced to sit through a god knows how long tutorial explaining what each and every button does. I just want to play the damn game and figure it all out for myself and I should be allowed to do so.

Very annoying.

  1. Here, here. You think devs would have got this sorted by now. Yes, games need to be accessible, but it's the fun that people want access to, and fast. I look to the tutorials in Braid and Trials HD - just some billboards in the background telling you what to press, then leaving you to it - very refreshing.

  2. Oh man, unskippable tutorials are indeed a pain. If you already know what to do, the game should not force them on you.

  3. I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure that Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg has a forced tutorial and then has sections on the first level where it again tells you what to do, absolutely ridiculous.

Welcome to the blog Reggie White Jr. Hope you take the time to go back and have a read and hope that you enjoy it.
