30 years ago on this very day one Super Mario Bros. was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Highly regarded as one of the most influential games ever created due to it launching the popularity of Mario, after appearances in Donkey Kong (known as Jumpman) and in Mario Bros. in the arcades, and for helping the NES become such a success to the extent that it reportedly sold just under 62million units.
The legacy of Super Mario Bros. lasts now with Mario platform games still being released on Nintendo systems and with Mario and friends being immortalised in pop culture. From featuring in a rather entertaining TV series in 1989 an a rather forgettable feature film in 1993 to appearing on T-shirts, bags, cereals and everything in between Maro has become ingrained in modern society.
Yes there were platform games released well before Mario came along but Super Mario Bros. is arguably one of the most successful and finest to play and for that Mario, we salute you.
